Kerch explained that if he were to choose between; a big shot reporter and, or a reporter of smaller status but a more general curiosity and a hunger for information, he would always go for the second reporter. A reporter who is willing to cover a subject or story he/she is not interested or knowledgeable in, is a reporter who will treat the story with the same respect and efforts as when they are covering something they love. Kerch said that some of his best and most inspirational moments in reporting were the stories he never imagined himself covering. By getting expirience in the areas we no little about, will ultimately prove to have been a big pay off
"A journalist must have curiosity", Kerch said. As a reporter, one must posses a special interest towards what their writing about. Reporters and writers are expected to provide news thats compatable to the likes and demands of the public audience.
When Kerch explained his switch from news papers to internet, he explained that he made the switch because he knew it would become a hit. He saw internet journalism as the future to his profession and bravely took that jump. I realized an underlying message in what he said; when there is a chance that you (as the reporter) can take a step ahead--take it.
